Music: Learning to Read Music by Playing the Recorder: Thurs a.m. Martlesham new group

Many people already play an instrument or sing by ear and wish they had learned to read music at school. This group's main objective is to teach participants to read music so they can sight sing or interpret music on another instrument. However, the recorder is an interesting, enjoyable (and relatively cheap) instrument in its own right. It is hoped that some of the group members will continue with the recorder and move to play in an ensemble in subsequent years.

Meeting pattern: Thursday mornings at 10.00-11.30 am in Martlesham. The group will meet frequently so that members can rapidly build their expertise in reading music.

A new group for beginners will start in September 2013.

You can find out more information about the group on our detailed pages by clicking here (you need to be signed in as a member to access this page).

Equipment Needed: Participants will need a descant or tenor recorder and will also need to buy a recorder tutor book (to be notified). The group leader will purchase these for group members if required. It would also be helpful if some group members could bring music stands (not essential).

Cost: 50p or £1.00 to pay for additional music costs and refreshments.

NB: It is possible that other instruments could be used in this group to learn to read music. The group leader will advise on the viability of this option for specific instruments.
