A new course (2017) exploring the range and background of the Icelandic sagas - often compared to Homer with their depiction of a heroic age but grounded in a vivid realism which makes them a precursor to the novel. Set in an unique environment which saw the first ever Parliament develop, these stories deal with feuds, love triangles, murders and also the everyday life of settlers. -- It's all here and deserves to be better known! The plan is for a small group, meeting once a month for 8 sessions to learn about the background and to discuss one of the recommended sagas which the group members will have committed to read. The sagas are generally quite short, in English and easily available from Amazon at low prices. Contact Sarah Rejman-Greene at 01473 710208 to book a place or for further details.
